Shop Black. Shop Local.: Juneteenth Campaign
In 2021, Juneteenth became a federally recognized holiday. The observance of this special day not only celebrates the freedom of African Americans and their emancipation in the United States. It also celebrates how far African Americans have come as a race in modern-day America. In remembrance of the 100th anniversary of the Black Wall Street massacre, where dozens of Black-owned businesses were targeted and burned to the ground, "Shop Black. Shop Local." was born.
Four businesses participated in this event in ongoing efforts to support locally Black-owned businesses in Uptown Oakland.
